2023 Sustainability Report

What will the world of tomorrow look like?

Flying arouses emotions and connects people across continents, powers economic exchange, and drives prosperity and global progress. A world without flying simply isn’t an option. At MTU Aero Engines, we’re already working on making the aviation of the future climate neutral. This is certainly possible—and for us as a technology pacesetter, it’s also a very special challenge. Fortunately, accepting challenges and finding new approaches is one of our strengths. Standing still means going backwards; for us, innovation is the norm.

Blazing new trails

“We are securing global mobility for future generations. Climate-neutral flying is our clear goal. To this end, we are working on comprehensive and far-reaching innovations. We have risen to the challenge!”

LARS WAGNER CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer
MTU Aero Engines AG

“Sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) immediately help reduce the climate impact of aviation. And now MTU has proved that existing engines can deliver on this promise—by performing the first test of a V2500 with 100% SAF on one of its test stands.”

MICHAEL SCHREYÖGG Chief Program Officer

Energy from beneath
the ground

“We were the first industrial company to successfully complete a geothermal test drilling project. The CO2-free thermal energy we draw from beneath the ground is part of our climate strategy at the Munich site.”

DR. SILKE MAURER Chief Operating Officer
MTU Aero Engines AG

“Our newly formed team further strengthens our commitment to sustainability and helps increase the transparency of our services. After all, these things aren’t reflected in economic figures alone.”
